Skimm'd while planning an eclipse party

  QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Stormtroopers" – Princes William and Harry might have a cameo in the next "Star Wars" movie. Guess they've gone to the dark side.

ON THE RUN

The Story

Spanish police are still searching for the driver in last week's deadly Barcelona van attack.

Wait, back up.

Last Thursday, a man drove a van into a crowd of people on Las Ramblas – a major tourist destination in Barcelona. 13 people were killed and around 120 were injured. And ISIS claimed responsibility for it. Hours later, in a town south of Barcelona, authorities killed five other suspects who were carrying out a separate, but connected, vehicle attack that killed one person.

So what's the latest?

Police say these attacks were planned by a terror cell in the country. The cell was working out of a house in a small town south of Barcelona that blew up a day before the attacks. Police say there's evidence it was being used as a bomb factory, showing the group was planning something much bigger. Meanwhile, they're still looking for the driver of the van in the Barcelona attack, and a few other members of the terror cell. They also say the driver may have slipped over the border to France.

Anything else?

On Friday in Finland, a man attacked people with a knife, killing two and injuring eight. This is Finland's first ever terror attack. Police shot and injured the suspect and have arrested four others. They're looking into whether there's any connection to the attacks in Spain.

In recent years, Spain and Finland have been spared from major terror attacks. So these incidents are worrying many that extremism is continuing to spread throughout the continent.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

What people are watching...

The USS John S. McCain. Last night, the Navy destroyer collided with a commercial ship near Singapore. Ten US sailors are missing and five were injured. The Navy ship is based in Japan and was making a routine visit to Singapore. It's unclear how the crash happened, but it comes just a couple months after another Navy ship collided with a container ship off the coast of Japan, killing seven sailors. Last week, several senior leaders of that ship were removed from duty. The USS McCain is named after Sen. John McCain's (R-AZ) father and grandfather, who were US Navy admirals. McCain and President Trump said they're keeping the sailors aboard in their "prayers."

What to say when you still don't have eclipse glasses...

Unprepared. Unlike these people. Over the weekend, around 40,000 protesters took to the streets in Boston. They were there to counter a free speech rally planned by right-wing groups that many thought would include white supremacists. This came a week after far-right hate groups clashed with counter-protesters in Charlottesville, VA. One woman was killed and about 20 more were injured when a driver rammed his car into the counter-protesters. President Trump blamed "both sides." Leading pretty much everyone else to say 'did the US president just equate white supremacists with activists standing up against racism?' The Boston protest was largely peaceful and barely anyone showed up to the free speech rally. Similar but much smaller protests also took place in cities across the country. Trump said "sometimes you need protest in order to heal."

What to say when a friend can't make it to your party...

Catch you on the flip side. On Friday, President Trump's chief strategist Steve Bannon was pushed out of the White House. You know Bannon as the former head of far-right news site Breitbart, which published anti-Semitic and racist articles while he was in charge. Last year, Bannon left to join Trump's campaign team and helped craft Trump's nationalist agenda (think: the travel ban, withdrawing from TPP). Inside the White House, he wasn't exactly known for getting along with the rest of Trump's team, especially his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner. Trump also apparently didn't like how much Bannon took credit for Trump's policies and rise to political fame. Now, Bannon's out of the job and already back at Breitbart planning to go "to war for Trump against his opponents." So it looks like he's being careful not to burn bridges on his way out.

What to say to your friend who's always trying to crack a joke…

The comedy world just lost two greats. Yesterday, the legendary Jerry Lewis died at age 91. He got his big break performing routines with Dean Martin back in the '40s. And went on to star in and direct dozens of movies, like "The Nutty Professor" and "The King of Comedy." He's also the guy who spent decades hosting a telethon that raised billions of dollars for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. It's unclear how he died. Also over the weekend, comedian and civil rights activist Dick Gregory died at age 84. He became a star in the '60s for comedy that called out the country's racism. He then became a prominent voice of the civil rights movement and marched with MLK Jr in Selma, AL. He later got involved with many other causes – everything from speaking out against police brutality to trying to help with the Iran hostage crisis. Earlier this month, Gregory was hospitalized. He reportedly died from a bacterial infection.
