  QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Concerned about Melissa getting burnt out and potentially wanting to leave" – An unusually honest job description. Because Melissa could really, really use some help. Now.

LAS VEGAS

The Story

Last night, a gunman opened fired at a concert in Las Vegas, killing at least 20 people and wounding at least 100 more.

What happened?

The shooting happened outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino during a country music festival. Jason Aldean was performing. Shots were fired from the 32nd floor of the hotel. SWAT teams were then sent to the hotel to find the suspected gunman. They found and killed him, and police are now looking for a woman who may be connected to the attack. Flights were temporarily paused at the nearby international airport.

Police say that this was a lone wolf attack and that the suspect is a local man from Las Vegas. They've urged anyone with pictures or videos to get in touch with them as they try to figure out the details about what happened and when.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

What to say when your friend wants to have 'the talk' with her bf…

Must be break-up season. Yesterday, Catalonia voted to break up with Spain. Psssst: Catalonia is the northeastern region of Spain that includes Barcelona. Yesterday, after decades of fighting off and on for independence, about 90% of Catalan voters said 'yes' to breaking things off with the rest of the country. They say they have their own culture and language, and contribute more than their fair share to Spain's economy. But, surprise, Spain isn't happy — and says the vote is illegal. Yesterday, Spanish police in riot gear dragged people out of polling stations and sprayed them with rubber bullets. More than 800 people were injured. Now, the Catalan gov is meeting to discuss next steps in formally declaring independence. Meanwhile, there are fears across the European Union that this could fan the flames of other independence movements.

What to say when your boss gives you critical feedback…

Puerto Rican officials know the feeling. Over the weekend, President Trump gave some feedback to the mayor of Puerto Rico's capital. Last month, Hurricane Maria hit the island. It was the worst storm there in almost a century, killing at least 16 people. The Trump administration has sent thousands of troops to help. But on Friday, the three-star general coordinating recovery efforts said he needs more troops and equipment. And San Juan's mayor said Puerto Ricans are "dying" and the government is "killing us with the inefficiency and the bureaucracy." Trump responded by saying San Juan's mayor showed "poor leadership" by saying this. That "they" – apparently meaning the people of Puerto Rico – "want everything to be done for them." And that anyone saying differently is either "Fake News or politically motivated ingrates." San Juan's mayor says she was asking for help, not attacking Trump. Administration officials say her comments were "unfair" and "unfortunate" – and that FEMA's doing the best it can in an impossible situation. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle think Trump should put down the Twitter. Trump is set to visit the island tomorrow.

What to say inside a haunted house...

Don't go there. On Friday, the US State Department warned Americans not to travel to Cuba. In the past year, at least 21 US diplomats and their family members living have been victims of suspected sonic attacks in Havana. The kind that involve harmful sound waves and have led to symptoms including hearing loss and difficulty sleeping. The attacks happened in the diplomats' homes or hotel rooms. The US is looking into who's responsible. The Cuban gov says 'not us.' In the meantime, the State Dept says Americans should push pause on any travel and is pulling certain employees from the US embassy in Havana. So maybe hold the cigars.

What to say when you went over budget last month...

Reminder: you are not Beyoncé. Neither is Tom Price. On Friday, the Health and Human Services Secretary resigned. Price spent more than $1 million in taxpayer money on private jets and military planes for work travel. This is not normal. And he isn't the only White House official who's been flying high. President Trump – who campaigned on a promise to "drain the swamp" – was not happy. Price said he'd reimburse the gov for part of the travel. Apparently that wasn't good enough for the boss. Now he's got a lot of free time on his hands.

What to say to your friend who always picks up Vanity Fair at the airport…

RIP SI Newhouse Jr. Yesterday, the billionaire media mogul and longtime Condé Nast publisher died at age 89. The Newhouse family owns a cable, newspaper, and magazine empire. SI was in charge of the magazine side. He spared literally no expense turning it into a powerhouse. He bought and revived The New Yorker and Vanity Fair. He gave Graydon Carter and Anna Wintour their jobs. Yesterday, Wintour said Newhouse was a "humble, thoughtful, idiosyncratic man, possibly the least judgmental person I have ever known."

What to say when you realize it's Monday…

Back to the grind. Just like the Supreme Court.

What to say to your friend who's into true crime...

OJ's a free man now.
