  QUOTE OF THE DAY

"The reverse walk is a protest" – The Berlin Zoo, on a panda that's going through puberty and is NOT in a good mood. They're bearing with her.

RUSSIAN ALONG

The Story

Investigations into Russia's election interference are hitting a few snags.

Tell me more.

There are not one, not two, but three committees in Congress investigating Russia's attack on the US presidential election – and whether the Trump campaign was involved. Now, a new report says these committees aren't getting very far. That's largely because (surprise!) there's partisan infighting. Including over who to interview, how to publicly frame their findings, and when to wrap up the investigations.

Isn't there another investigation?

Yes. The one by Special Counsel Robert Mueller that seems to be functioning better. One focus has been Trump's former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his business dealings. Including reportedly with Tony Podesta – a lobbyist and brother of John Podesta, Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman. Mueller is reportedly looking into a PR campaign Manafort and Podesta worked on to boost Ukraine's reputation in the West. This campaign promoted a group reportedly backed by a pro-Russian Ukrainian political party.

Anything else?

Kaspersky Lab – a Russian cybersecurity firm with alleged ties to the Kremlin – says it's going to let outside experts take a look at its software's security. It's hoping to reduce concerns that its products help the Kremlin spy on the US.

A foreign country actively undermined American democracy. And there are concerns that it will do so again in next year's midterms. But it doesn't look like Congress is going to be much help.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

What people are watching...

Syria. Images recently came out of a severely malnourished baby in a suburb of Damascus, Syria's capital. The baby has since died. The pictures are bringing new attention to the ongoing food crisis in the country. Syria is in year seven of a terrible civil war that has killed hundreds of thousands of people. Syrian forces – backed by Russia – are fighting with moderate rebels – backed by the US – who want Syrian President Assad out of power. The baby died in a suburb that's under a blockade imposed by Assad's forces, cutting off access to essentials like food. Millions of Syrians live in blocked off or hard-to-reach places like this. Here's how you can help.

What to say when Adele is on...

Rumor has it your retirement plan is safe. Yesterday, President Trump said his proposed tax plan won't change anyone's 401(k). 401(k): a tax-deferred way of setting aside part of your paycheck for retirement. The GOP was reportedly thinking about reducing how much people could put in their 401(k) account in order to make up for tax cuts elsewhere. But Trump says 'nope not happening.' Congress votes on the GOP's tax plan as soon as lawmakers sign off on a budget. That should happen this week.

What people are talking about...

Harvey Weinstein. Yesterday, the New York attorney general opened a civil rights investigation into the Weinstein Company, which the Hollywood producer co-founded. This month, more than 50 women – including names like Paltrow, Jolie, and Judd – have accused him of sexual harassment and assault. The Weinstein Co fired him, and might change its name. But now the New York AG is saying 'still not off the hook.' He's looking into how the company has handled any and all sexual harassment complaints, and whether it's violated any civil or human rights laws. Meanwhile, Bill O'Reilly is back. The former Fox News host reportedly reached a $32 million sexual harassment settlement...before re-signing a contract with Fox. And the network apparently knew about the settlement. This is on top of several other reported settlements he's reached over the years. O'Reilly says the allegations aren't true. He has also said that no one at Fox ever complained to HR about his behavior. Now, Megyn Kelly – his former Fox News co-worker and current "Today Show" host – is saying 'false, I complained.'

What to say to your friend who got tested for the BRCA gene…

Hear about this? Yesterday, a team of researchers said they've discovered dozens of previously unknown gene mutations that can lead to the development of breast cancer. They say this will help them more accurately ID a woman's risk of getting the disease. And come up with better treatment plans.
