  QUOTE OF THE DAY

"I sold a tequila company for a billion f***ing dollars" – George Clooney, waxing poetic about why he's not acting anymore. Mo' money no problems.

TENSIONS HIGH

The Story

Saudi Arabia is clapping back at Iran and its proxies.

What do you mean?

Yesterday, Saudi Arabia blamed Lebanon and Hezbollah – an Iranian-backed militant group – for a missile launched over the weekend aimed at Saudi Arabia's capital. It says this attempted attack from Iran and its proxies was an "act of war."

Give me some background.

Saudi Arabia is the dominant Sunni power in the Middle East. Iran is the dominant Shiite power. For years, the two have been locked in a power struggle that has played out in proxy battles across the neighborhood. Including in Lebanon. It's run by a coalition gov that has a mix of 'team Saudi' – like the former prime minister – and 'team Iran' – like Hezbollah. It worked, until it didn't.

What's been going on?

Over the weekend, Lebanon's prime minister resigned while in the Saudi capital. This surprised pretty much everyone. He says he stepped down because Iran was stirring up "fear and destruction," and taking over the region. And because he thinks there could be an assassination plot against him – like the one that killed his father in '05.

Anything else?

Yep, this weekend Saudi Arabia also detained a bunch of the country's princes and other gov officials. Meaning it looks like the Saudi crown prince is consolidating power during a pretty tense time.

Lebanon is the new focus of the proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran. And the escalated drama has many worried it will reignite tensions between Sunnis and Shiites in the rest of the region.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

What people are watching…

Texas. More is coming out about the mass shooting in southern Texas. On Sunday, a 26-year-old gunman opened fire during a church service in Sutherland Springs. He killed at least 26 people and wounded 20 others. Half of the victims were children. Sometime before the shooting, the gunman sent threatening texts to his mother-in-law, who attends the church but wasn't there on Sunday. He also has a history of domestic violence. And was discharged for "bad conduct" from the Air Force in 2014 after assaulting his ex-wife and her child. Yesterday, the Air Force said it failed to report the domestic violence conviction to a federal database - which is required by the Pentagon. This could have prevented the shooter from passing background checks and buying firearms.

What to say when your friend's still sore from the marathon…

Stay in the race. It's Election Day. The state and local kind. No matter where you live, today you'll be hearing about Virginia – a swing state and one of the few governor's races. It's neck-and-neck. Psst...here's how to find out where to go to vote.

What to say when your friend's texts have a weird symbol instead of "I"s...

Apple's losing some...and winning some. Yesterday, the company won a big patent battle with Samsung. The two have been fighting for years over things like who first came up with the slide-to-unlock feature. Yesterday, the Supreme Court decided it's had enough of the petty and will not hear Samsung's latest appeal. Which means Apple's sliding away from the saga with $120 million. Broadcom - a company that makes chips for things like smartphones - also has money on the brain. It has offered more than $100 billion to buy up its competitor, Qualcomm. If this happens, it'll be the biggest tech deal. Ever. Disney is also whipping out the company card. It's reportedly thinking of buying up 21st Century Fox, but the deal may not go through. If it does, Disney would own the rights to The Avengers and X-Men – meaning more blockbusters. Comic book fans are veeeery excited.

What to say when your laptop won't restart...

Shut it down. Florida State University just banned Greek life. The move came after a freshman pledge died on Friday. He was found unresponsive the morning after a house party, and police say that alcohol might have been involved. Then yesterday, another FSU frat member was arrested for selling cocaine. The two incidents prompted the university to pull the cord. And FSU's president says that a "new normal for Greek life" is needed if they're going to bring Greek back.

What to say when you change your hairstyle…

Nutella's recipe changed too. Nuts.

THING TO KNOW

Paradise Papers

A new giant document leak that is exposing wealthy people and their shady offshore accounts. People like the Queen of England. And some of President Trump's top advisors, including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Chief Economic Advisor Gary Cohn, and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross. That's how everyone found out about Ross's business ties to Russian President Putin's family. Paradise, lost.
