Skimm'd while making sure everyone we know is registered to vote

  QUOTE OF THE DAY

"It was my intention to change the name before submission" – A college student forgot her professor's name and ended up turning in a paper to "Professor whats his nuts." Yep.

ANOTHER ONE

The Story

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has a new allegation on his hands.

What do you mean?

You saw the headlines from last week: CA professor Christine Blasey Ford came forward to publicly accuse the SCOTUS nominee of sexually assaulting her at a party when they were in high school. The Senate Judiciary Committee delayed its vote to look into the allegation. There was a lot of back and forth over when Ford could talk to senators about it. Yesterday, she agreed on Thursday as the date she is willing to testify. It's going down at a public hearing.

OK, but you said new allegation…

Yep. Last night, a second woman came forward to accuse him of sexual misconduct. Her name is Deborah Ramirez and she went to Yale with Kavanaugh back in the '80s. The New Yorker wrote that she says Kavanaugh "exposed himself at a drunken dormitory party, thrust his penis in her face, and caused her to touch it without her consent as she pushed him away."

What does Kavanaugh say?

That this did not happen and is a "smear, plain and simple." The White House backed Kavanaugh and said this is "the latest in a coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats designed to tear down a good man."

The report says that Senate Democrats are looking into the new claim. TBD if this will come up at Thursday's hearing with Kavanaugh and Ford. But it adds another layer to the background of a man who is trying to sit on the highest court in America.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

What people are watching…

Iran. Over the weekend, gunmen dressed as soldiers opened fire at a military parade there. They killed at least 25 people – including civilians – and injured dozens more. It was the deadliest terror attack in Iran in years. ISIS claimed responsibility. But Iran is pointing the finger at its regional rival Saudi Arabia and its foreign foe the US (for apparently "bullying the world"). Iran's Revolutionary Guards threatened "deadly and unforgettable" revenge on those responsible for the attack. The US said it "condemns all acts of terrorism." No word from Saudi Arabia. This all comes as Iran's President Hassan Rouhani is headed to the Big Apple for the UN General Assembly. So this may or may not be a topic of discussion at the UNGA.

What to say when you hear about Rod Rosenstein and the 25th Amendment

Not the only thing on President Trump's mind. Over the weekend, the Trump admin announced a plan to limit green cards for immigrants using public benefits. Immigration is top of mind for the admin, but it's mostly been focused on illegal immigrants (see: "zero tolerance" policy). This new plan focuses on legal immigrants. It gives authorities more power to turn down green card and visa applications for those that use benefits like food stamps and housing vouchers. There will be a 60-day public comment period before it can become official. India also has benefits on the brain. Yesterday, the country launched the world's largest healthcare program. India currently spends about 1% of its GDP on health care. And tens of millions of people there fall under the poverty line every year because of health costs. But Indian PM Narendra Modi's trying to change that. Meet, "Modicare." The plan helps the country's poorest and gives families almost $7,000 a year for serious health issues. Supporters say this would really reform India's health system. Critics say this might just be Modi making big moves before next year's election.

What to say when you hear Tiger Woods won big this weekend…

So did Comcast. Over the weekend, the cable giant said 'ello poppet' to its new SO – British broadcaster Sky. Comcast won a bidding war against 21st Century Fox and casually dropped about $40 billion to put a ring on it. But before they live happily ever after, Sky shareholders have to sign off on the deal.

PS: 21st Century Fox is a minority investor in theSkimm.

What to say when your co-worker gets promoted…

Go on and take a bow.

What to say after getting ghosted…

When life gives you lemons, make it into a Halloween costume.
