EDITOR’S NOTE

Happy Sunday. My weekly screen-time report hit a number I won’t be sharing, so I signed up for an eight-week pottery class. While the experience has been…humbling (I’ll be lucky if I end up with something resembling a bowl), I’ve enjoyed the novelty. So here are some more new — or new-to-me — things I’m excited about:

— Melissa Goldberg / Senior Editor / Washington, DC

Deeply important information

🎨 Sure, chocolate and cream is always a safe bet — but these fall color combos are god-tier this year. (Can confirm No. 4 has us in a choke hold.)

👀 Forget the scarf blouse. There’s another top that’ll make you look trust-fund rich, whether you pair it with a midi skirt or your baggiest jeans.

💋 Not that our overstuffed makeup bags needed another lip gloss, but this unexpected shade is apparently an Instagram filter in a tube.

🧥 The ultrasleek jacket you’re about to see on every stylish person? It’s timeless, goes with everything, and keeps your neck nice and toasty. Sold.

🩰 As if 2026 wasn’t weird enough, “ballerina boobs” are trending online — and in plastic surgeons’ offices. Come quick, 2027.

I can't look away.
woman drinking coffee

Just when it seemed like we’d already reached Peak Social Media Discourse, a 20-something job-hunter said, “Hold my sweaty, half-finished iced coffee.” For those who somehow missed “the great iced coffee debate,” it all started when corporate recruiter Caitlin Wehniainen posted a TikTok complaining that Gen Z applicants keep showing up to interviews with one in hand. Her take: It’s a “little too casual” and gives the impression the interview is “a stop on your list of errands for the day” — somewhere between the dry cleaner and Target.

Innocuous advice, right? Apparently not. It’s had the internet in a cold (foam) war ever since. Some (read: mostly Gen Z) have pointed out that “an interview IS just a stop in my day” and insisted their Emotional Support Latte has nothing to do with their qualifications. If anything, it’s proof they’ve got serious time management skills (assuming the Starbucks line didn’t make them late). Meanwhile, the other side (read: mainly millennials and up) has argued — *cue Gretchen Wieners voice* — that it’s just like, the rules of professionalism, citing everything that could go wrong, from clammy handshakes to the grating rattle of ice to one very awkward coffee cradle. Plus, it’s all part of playing the job-searching game and…can’t you drink it before or after? Many even expanded the list of no-gos to include Public Displays of Your Skincare Routine and showing up in full Drowned Rat Chic. And while experts unpacked the whole thing with, frankly, way more depth than it needed, a third group emerged: People Who Can’t Believe This Is a Thing. They’ve blessedly turned the controversy into fantastic jokes about what else a prospective employee might bring (this would certainly make an impression). As for where we stand? We’ll neither confirm nor deny that we wrote this with wet hair and a cold brew in hand.

Lili Reinhart and Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality

Congrats are in order for Lili Reinhart, who just earned the first-ever (completely made-up) Oscar for Best Press Tour Fashion. While on the press circuit for The Love Hypothesis, the actress and her stylist executed her “Rom-Com Baddie” Pinterest board with terrifying precision — delivering an homage to heroines of the ’90s and ’00s that was so impressive, she may have out-Zendaya’d Zendaya (yep, we said it). Here are the looks most likely to heal your inner teen, ranked.

5️⃣ An updated take on a 30, flirty, and thriving ensemble, featuring the “only copy” of the coat we’ve always wanted to wear to our glamorous magazine-editor jobs.

4️⃣ The second-most-iconic pink-velour number in film history, from a movie we truly didn’t realize anyone else remembered. Prepare to have that theme song stuck in your head from now until forever.

3️⃣ This fairy tale of a gown, inspired by the movie that convinced our 10-year-old selves Cinderella was based on a true story. Even Drew Barrymore commended Reinhart for “putting the period in period piece.”

2️⃣ This nod to the reason butter yellow has lived rent-free in our heads for the past 23 years. We’d be so vain if we had this in our closet, too.

1️⃣ That Uptown Girls dress. Yes, the original — the one that’s haunted our every waking thought (and eBay search) since 2003. If you know, you know…and if you have one in our size, please email us ASAP.

Wait, so they aren’t dating??
Mary Beth Barone and Joe Alwyn

Normally, we don’t endorse fake-dating your costar (hi, JLo and BGold). But Mary Beth Barone and Joe Alwyn may be the exception. Last week, the Overcompensating star and former yogurt shop employee were spotted on a Brooklyn bar crawl, sparking rumors of a celebrity couple only Mad Libs could’ve dreamed up. Turns out, it was more of a corporate retreat. On Tuesday, the comedian posted photos from what was presumably their off-site, alongside an announcement that she was “hard launching” Still We Met, a rom-com loosely based on some of her own experiences, starring the two and exec-produced by the likes of Lena Dunham. Oh, to be a fly on the wall of Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff’s group chat.

Is anyone else feeling overwhelmed by the fall chaos??

Need something to watch.
Snoop Dogg, Madonna, and Raye

Get into the groove. The MTV Video Music Awards air tonight (set a reminder for 7:30 pm ET) — and they might actually be relevant again. For starters, expect a big evening for host Snoop Dogg (don’t be surprised if his best friend makes a cameo) and Madonna, who leads the pack in nominations and will kick off the show with her first VMA performance in 23 years, with help from some “very special guests” (fingers crossed for Britney). Also taking the stage? Kacey Musgraves, who will lead a tribute to Dolly Parton, while Raye, Sombr, and Teddy Swims will perform one for George Michael. Oh, and don’t think we forgot about the Taylor Swift of It All: Pop’s Resident Jigsaw will receive the inaugural Artist Director Honors, debut her music video for “Patient Zero,” and, we can only assume, drop 1,000 more Easter eggs that’ll have us lying awake the rest of the night wondering what’s next. Good luck to us all.

No notes.

It's gorpcore fleece season. This one is ridiculously soft and fluffy, and we love the '90s-esque design.

We were today years old when we learned that Crocs makes slippers. They're cuter than you're picturing.
