Why Ali Tested

How I Tested…

I used these four products over the course of six weeks to see the effects on my skin.

Test Results…

  • Ocean Cleanser. I liked this cleanser. It felt soothing to my skin and never irritated it. I kept it in my shower, so I used it whenever I hopped in. It didn’t feel too oily, too watery, or too abrasive. Ingredients include Undaria seaweed, bentonite, lactic acid, and jojoba and sesame oils. It’s meant for normal to combination skin, and since it’s made with mostly naturally derived ingredients, the brand highlights the cleanser’s unique color. There’s no dye, so if the color slightly changes over time, it’s normal. At $48, it’s on the pricier end, but I appreciate the effort the brand puts into sustainable packaging and ingredient visibility.

  • Salts of the Earth Body Scrub. I also liked this scrub and kept it in my shower to exfoliate my legs. I tend to get ingrown hairs and bumps post-shaving, and can sometimes experience itchiness, but when I regularly exfoliate, my legs feel smoother and less itchy. Ingredients include mineral-rich salts, Gigartina seaweed, shea butter, and lavender oil. I noticed that the scrub softened quickly when mixed with water and collected a tiny bit of liquid when sitting in the container over time. I wished the scrub had stayed hard and therefore drier to really provide that exfoliation, but it still did the job well and smelled wonderful. The brand does highlight to stir before using, and I would agree.

  • Hyaluronic Lip Booster. I liked this product the most. I kept it by my bedside and used it every night before bed. It’s a nonsticky lip oil that really provides hydration. I woke up most mornings with soft lips and no flakes, and only felt dry when I had been lacking on my water intake the day before and simply needed a glass of water in the morning. The lip oil goes on smoothly, isn’t goopy, and feels silky on. The one thing I disliked is the applicator. I felt like sometimes the applicator struggled to reach the oil within the small container, so I really had to move it around or dip the applicator in and out a few times to get the amount I wanted.

  • Ocean Eyes Age-Defying Serum. This is the product I’m having trouble speaking to because I didn’t see a huge difference in my under-eye appearance. I don’t have deep dark circles though, but my under eyes can appear darker if I’m tired (alas, I am human). So while I did apply it morning and evening, I can’t say it produced a wow effect. However, it provided a cooling effect that I enjoyed and became a welcomed final step in my skincare routine. It’s made of a seaweed blend that can brighten the skin and may reduce dark circles, along with caffeine to decrease fine lines and quinoa to reduce puffiness. It’s $58, which isn’t a ridiculous price for an eye serum compared to similar brands.
