On our latest episode of Skimm Tasted, we asked HQ’rs to taste-test five popular snacks that are secretly enhanced with 10 or more grams of protein per serving. (Yes, even the water.) Check out the video on our Instagram to see how the team reacted, and read on for more delicious details. Happy snacking.
Protein Pints Ice Cream
You’d think a protein ice cream would taste like a frozen protein shake: chalky, tasteless, and not sweet enough. Not the case with these Protein Pints. They come in 10 flavors (with notable mentions like Fudge Brownie and Salted Caramel), all of which have 30 grams of complete protein per pint (or 10 grams of protein per serving). If you’re looking for a sweet treat that will keep you fuller, longer, add these to cart.
Doritos Protein Nacho Cheese Tortilla Chips
An oldie, but a goodie. According to our taste-testers, these protein-enhanced chips taste nearly identical to their beloved regular counterpart. They’re cheesy, crispy, and full of flavor. One tester even said these feel “crunchier” than regular Doritos. They also have no colors from artificial sources and no artificial flavors.
Protein Boostin’ Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop-Tarts®
None of the three taste-testers could tell these Pop-Tarts were protein-enhanced. They’ve got the same flavor as other brown sugar cinnamon Pop Tarts, but with a “boost” of 10 grams of protein per serving. Whether you eat them straight out of the foil or toasted, these are guaranteed to bring you back to the good ol’ days.
H2Pro+ Protein Water
Protein in your water? Wonders never cease. H2Pro+ is dubbed as a “functional protein water” that actually tastes like regular water. We had the testers try the Lemon-Lime variant.. The color differs slightly compared to regular water, but the benefits are hard to ignore. Each bottle (or serving) has 15 grams of clear whey protein, 4 grams of prebiotic fiber, electrolytes, and 70 calories. If you’re not a fan of lemon-lime, they also have a cucumber mint and a flavorless option.
Sola Soft Bagels
For bread lovers who are looking to sneak in a little extra protein into their diet, these Sola bagels are a great option. They have 14 grams of protein, 27 grams of fiber (important for digestion), and only 5 net grams of carbs. We also love that they’re made with avocado oil and have zero added sugar or artificial preservatives. Plus, they come in all of our favorite bagel variations, like everything, cinnamon raisin, and blueberry. Pro tip: Toast them for a crunchy-soft texture and store them in your freezer for up to 12 months.
