15 ideas to help you take a break this week

Press Pause with "Harry Potter"
April 6, 2020

Hi,

Happy Monday. At least we think it’s Monday? Who’s to say.

Both Passover and Easter happen this week, which might feel weird if you’re not with your family. And if you don’t celebrate, you might feel weird because... *gestures at all this.*

Time to Press Pause. We’re back with some of our favorite things to watch, read, cook, and more.

From our couch to yours…

  1. “Making The Cut.” One day you’re in, the next day you’re watching Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum on a fashion design show that’s not “Project Runway.” Watch the episodes on Amazon and then shop the designs.

  2. DIY fortune tellers. Because drastic times call for making decisions from a piece of paper. Should we re-watch “Sex and the City” for the hundredth time? Our fortune says Big time yes.

  3. Houseparty. Use this app to hang with friends, play trivia games, and generally pretend you’re socializing IRL. BYO Solo Cup.

  4. The best matzo ball soup. Whether you’re hosting a virtual Passover Seder or you’re just someone who likes good soup. This recipe is a must. Ball so hard, that sh*t’s good.

  5. Homemade Peeps. Because nothing says at-home Easter like DIY marshmallows. PS: You can make them boozy. Peep on peepin’ on.

  6. An at-home manicure tool. Shoutout to your right hand that has polish all over it. This bottle handle makes it easy to get a grip and paint straight. Try it with one of these colors to spark some serious spring joy.

  7. A beginner’s guide to running. Raise your hand if you were personally victimized by the mile run in seventh grade. Shudders. These tips and this playlist to the rescue.

  8. “Harry Potter At Home.” J.K. Rowling knows you need some magic right now. She’s helping you turn your home into Hogwarts with HP-themed puzzles, quizzes, articles, and more. Accio fun.

  9. All 92 Best Picture winners ranked. We’re finally getting around to watching all the classic movies we haven’t seen. First up: “Casablanca.” And the Oscar goes to...

  10. “Wow, No Thank You.” A new book of essays by Samantha Irby. It's a hilarious and self-deprecating look at the craziness of everyday life. Or at least what we used to think of as crazy… *shrug emoji*

  11. Bananagrams. The Words With Friends meets Scrabble game from childhood that we forgot about until now. Play with your kids, or with the banana bread you stress-baked this weekend.

  12. Dolly Parton reading bedtime stories. Every Thursday night. On YouTube. Watch her first ep and get excited for ep two. Talk about a way to make a livin’.

  13. A new internet read we loved: Alex Morgan’s inspiring story. The soccer star opens up about getting pregnant at the height of her career. And offers some positivity we could all use right now.

  14. …and an old one: A deep dive on Millennial Pink. Here’s how it became the only color in your IG feed. Double tap.

  15. Finally, three totally random things that made us happy this week: This dumpling light. Candles that smell like the ‘90s. And this croissant de-stress ball.
