Recently CBD has joined the forefront of conversation, but what’s this buzz-worthy acronym really all about? theSkimm spoke to Gabe Kennedy, Co-Founder of Plant People, a cannabis wellness brand, about the 411 on CBD.CBD is the part of cannabis that doesn’t get you high and you’re probably hearing about it everywhere.CBD is short for Cannabidiol. It’s one of the dozens of naturally found compounds present in cannabis. You can think of cannabis as the mother plant of both hemp and marijuana (hemp and marijuana are like cousins). Move over Kardashians, this family tree is stealing the spotlight.CBD is not the compound that gets you high, that’s THC. Most CBD comes from hemp plants. Hemp has very low levels of THC and is legal in the US.Studies have shown CBD can help with anything from anxiety, stress, pain, inflammation and even PTSD. The FDA even approved a CBD based drug to treat epilepsy. Side effects have not included ice cream cravings.You can find CBD infused oils, lotions, candies, chocolates and even face masks. Stores like Walgreens have even announced that they’ll start to sell CBD products.Because this market is still so young, there’s still a lot of legalities and research that needs to happen.
