Frankie Grande texts with theSkimm

June 1, 2019

The Story

Frankie Grande stopped by theSkimm to talk all things Pride Month and some of his other faves.

Why does that name sound familiar?

You may know his sister, Ariana (yes, the “thank u, next” Ariana). But he also spent some time on Broadway, hosting Amazon’s Style Code Live, and producing his one-man show.

Nice. What did he have to say?

This year for Pride you can see Frankie as a Stonewall Ambassador for the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, which is widely considered as the beginning of the modern gay rights movement. He’ll also be listening to his Pride playlist: Ariana, Celine, Madonna (aka "the greats”). When he’s not listening to one on his sister’s hit songs, he’s raising awareness for one of his favorite charities, AIDS/LifeCycle.

Any other recs from Frankie?

The 1995 movie, “To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar.” It was a huge influence on his life as a gay male adult. His current read? “A Return to Love” by Marianne Williamson.

According to Frankie, Pride means “not being afraid of who you are on the inside, and not being afraid to show that to the entire world.” We'll be commemorating Pride all month, check it out here.
