May 22, 2018

Your rosé is chilled. Your weekend tote’s packed. Now all you need is a new book to keep you company. Here are our favorite summer reads for getting away all season long...

For when you’re going to a bachelorette party…

Hey ladies. "Hey Ladies" by Caroline Moss and Michelle Markowitz is all about women planning a bach party via emails. Warning: will make you laugh out loud.

For when you’re answering work emails over the weekend...

You might be into this one. "The Female Persuasion" by Meg Wolitzer follows Greer into her first job working for feminist icon Faith Frank. And her 'meant to be' love story that doesn't go as planned. It'll give you a little "The Devil Wears Prada," a little "The Affair," and a feminist history lesson along the way. Get it here.

For when your friend says the weekend house “needs a reality show”...

Inspo ahead. “The Favorite Sister” by Jessica Knoll is about a reality show called “Goal Diggers” that’s kinda like Real Housewives meets Shark Tank. When one of the cast members ends up dead, reality gets very, very real.

For when someone tries to play a game during the car ride...

We have one for you. The rules can be found in “You Think It, I’ll Say it” by Curtis Sittenfeld. It’s a collection of short stories about everything from marriage issues to political beliefs and more. When you think ‘smart beach read,’ we say this book.

For when you’re going on a family trip...

Things could get wild. Especially with the book from the creators of “Wild Wild Country.” In “Like Brothers” by Jay and Mark Duplass, you’ll learn how to harness your creativity while laughing at the stories from these famous bros.

For when you need to put the Sunday scaries in perspective…

Thriller time. “The Perfect Mother” by Aimee Molloy is about every mom’s worst nightmare. A group of Brooklyn moms goes out for a night and one of the woman’s kids ends up missing. Cue a dash to figure out WTF happened. Kerry Washington is set to star in the movie version, so get into it now.

For when the SOs are staying home...

All the single ladies. "Love and Ruin" by Paula McLain can relate. It’s about a 28-year-old journalist in Spain who unexpectedly falls in love with Hemingway. As in, Ernest. And she has to decide between her job and her relationship. The struggle is real. Get in on it here.

For when you’re so excited it’s Friday that you might cry...

Get a book to go with the feels. "That Kind of Mother" by Rumaan Alam will give you allll of them. In it, a white mom gets some motherhood help from a black woman. She changes her life. In more ways than one.
