From the Group Chat: Jim Carrey’s Appearance, New York’s Luckiest Bearded Dragon, and Harry Styles’s Netflix Special

EDITOR’S NOTE

Happy Sunday. I don’t know who else needs to hear this, but starting tonight — well, in DC — the sun will set after 7 pm. And that’s not the only thing worth celebrating…

👑 Good news for anyone who went through a childhood Disney Princess phase: The season's most viral accessory is something you probably wore to trick or treat. Time to raid that costume bin.

🌸 If you treated Seventeen’s prom issues like the Bible, you’re going to feel very smug about this season’s trendiest celeb hairstyle

💔 Think you’re in a solid relationship? “Subconscious uncoupling” says you might already be breaking up. Somewhere, Gwyneth Paltrow is shaking her head.

💅 Spring’s coolest nail trend is straight from your grandmother’s collection of glasses. No, really.

👖 We can’t prevent the revival of this exceptionally polarizing Y2K denim trend. But we can provide this guide to pulling it off when you’re over 30.

Jim Carrey, allow us to induct you into a club women have been joining against their will for decades: The Face Speculation Society™. In a development almost too on the nose for the star of The Mask, Carrey’s appearance has become the latest internet fixation. It all started when the actor — who’s largely stayed out of the public eye — received an honorary award at the Césars (aka the French equivalent of the Oscars) and delivered his entire acceptance speech in French. Impressive, non? Well, it would’ve been, if people weren’t so preoccupied with Carrey’s “unrecognizable” face. Naturally, the plastic surgery speculation was swift, with at least one doctor — who, we should note, hasn’t treated Carrey — providing a highly speculative price tag that had us saying (Bruce) almighty. But then the internet interneted too close to the sun: Some suggested it might’ve been an impersonator (this resurfaced Late Show with David Letterman clip didn’t help), while other…creative theorists decided it must be a clone (we wish we were kidding).

Adding fuel to the Carrey-is-a-liar-(liar) rumors? An Instagram post from special-effects makeup artist Alexis Stone, in which he may — or may not — have taken credit for doubling as Carrey at the event. Even Megan Fox didn’t know what to believe, commenting, “i can’t handle any more stress right now i need to know if this is real.” Well, Megan, it seems Carrey’s team heard you loud and clear — and the response was essentially a very polite way of saying, “come on.” Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the Césars, hit back even harder, confirming Carrey’s attendance and practically writing him a love letter in the process. Not only did he praise Carrey’s dedication to the speech (he apparently practiced for “months”), but he also called him generous, elegant, and a whole lot of other words we hope people use about us. All of which is to say: Alrighty, then.

Turns out, men really will get a bearded dragon before going to therapy. Or, at least, that’s the case for Bobby Cannavale. For those who missed one of the Golden Globes’ most delightful speeches, we’ll explain: In January, Rose Byrne’s partner skipped Hollywood’s biggest party to pick up a bearded dragon for their son Rafael at a reptile expo (friends, we can’t make this up). Now, we’re learning more about New York’s Luckiest Dragon, thanks to investigative reporter Jimmy Fallon. Rafael’s (sorry, Bobby’s) first-ever pet is named Benny (not after the one you think). His favorite foods are crickets and cockroaches, obviously. And while Cannavale got him obstacle courses, a hammock, and “a little thing to climb,” the biggest part of Benny’s day is their 1 pm ritual: “I put him on my chest. We talk … I talk,” Cannavale explained. “I don’t have therapy. I don’t do Pilates or yoga. So it’s my moment.” Benny, if you need someone besides your famous humans to talk to, perhaps try a playdate with this fellow famous bearded lizard, Glen Powell’s nepo dog Brisket (watch out for his BDE), or Ariana Grande’s pet pig, Piggy Smallz. That is, if you can track her down

Nicole Kidman, we didn’t peg you as the type who likes this kind of trip, but seal clap for you.

Sted Sarandos, meet Ted Sarandos. In a move bound to please disgruntled Harry Styles’ fans everywhere, Netflix got together, together with the future Mr. Zoë Kravitz (??) to celebrate his “life mantra” slash new album — which apparently “gets weird in delightful ways” (we wouldn’t expect anything less). Recorded in Manchester on Friday, the Netflix special is his first full-length concert in nearly three years and features every track from the LCD Soundsystem-inspired album. That includes “Paint by Numbers,” which alludes to a romance with an older woman (nope, probably not Kravitz); “Carla’s Song” (yes, we all had the same question: who is Carla?); and “American Girls,” inspired by Styles watching all his closest friends get married (relatable). Will there be more of the World’s Most Joyful Choreography? Will  Robyn join him for a duet? Will he debut a surprise “cremation [song]” (kind of less morbid than it sounds)? We’ll be tuning in the second it drops (set a reminder for 3 pm ET) to find out.

Athleta Pinnacle High Rise Trouser

Ali, commerce director, here to tell you about some of my favorite pants — a must-have if you work from home often and desperately need to escape the sweats and/or pajamas era. Made from a smooth, stretchy, and lightweight fabric with a hybrid elastic waistband, they’re ridiculously comfortable, even when I’m sitting at a desk for hours. And they’re like the sporty sister of a traditional trouser, so when I leave the house, I just throw on a crewneck sweater, a trench coat, and Adidas sneakers — and I feel like my own version of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy cool.
