From the Group Chat: The 'Tell Me Lies' Finale, Ryan Murphy Beef, and 'The Last Thing He Told Me', Season Two

EDITOR'S NOTE

Happy Sunday. The Closing Ceremony is here, but I'm still chasing a few gold medals of my own today, like trying this “genius” secret ingredient for perfectly balanced red sauce. In between the final events, here's the other podium-worthy news I’m following:

🫣 Don't panic, but the most important staple in our makeup bag might be going out of style. Excuse us while we stock up.

👖 These are the three kinds of (polarizing) pants everyone will be wearing this spring. We might finally feel emotionally prepared to try number two.

💇‍♀️ Sure, you've had side bangs. But have you ever had B*tchy Little Side Bangs? Trust us, you're going to want them.

💼 Nineties kids, rejoice: The skirt you always imagined you'd wear as a grown-up is back in style — and even cooler than the ones we daydreamed about.

⛵️ These foolproof jeans-and-top formulas will save you from outfit fatigue. Yes, even number six.

It's not just you — everyone (and their toxic ex) is talking about the ending of Tell Me Lies. Yes, after three seasons of literal and emotional car crashes, the show about the Worst People You Know (and Still Love) ended this week with a bang. Actually, it was more like a bomb, courtesy of Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White)'s wedding speech from hell. (Have there ever been two more sinister-sounding syllables uttered?) If your group chat hasn't been blowing up since MGMT blasted us back to the late ‘00s, allow us to recap it for you. (Spoilers ahead.) Told in two main timelines in 2008 and 2015, the show mainly follows Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen's toxic relationship, but this season, we learned that Tell Me Lies' biggest, well, lie, actually involves someone not even Sociopath in Chief Stephen saw coming.

But why is everyone suddenly invested in these Extremely Millennial Frenemies? The series surprisingly managed to wrap up its many (seriously, so many) loose ends in its final season — not perfectly (justice for Macy), but close. Formerly skeptical fans flocked to the internet to praise some of the finale's biggest reveals, including: a needle drop that should be studied and a shared look that made us believe in love again. Stephen finally faced a single consequence, which led to at least one standing ovation for Spencer House's Wrigley (whose first name on the show we may never know). Thankfully, there was also one moment of sweet redemption (this phone case spoke volumes). Our well-meaning, problematic girl Lucy got a frustratingly realistic (or “perfect,” if you ask Van Patten) ending, which we now consider to be the best use of this meme — ever. Some questions, of course, remain, like: Who created this guest list? What's the deal with this cake-cutting timeline? Most important, who approved this wig? We'll never know. At least the show — unlike Lucy — knew to quit while it was ahead.

We're four episodes into Love Story, the pulpy, Ryan Murphy-produced retelling of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette's whirlwind romance. The reviews have been surprisingly positive, but there’s an even bigger revelation to focus on. Murphy, it seems, really does not care much (to put it lightly) for Daryl Hannah. The actress (portrayed by Dree Hemingway) dated JFK Jr. for several years before (er, according to one source, possibly while) he dated Bessette. Speculation suggests societal pressure and a rift between Hannah and his mom, Jackie Kennedy, led to their split. But on the show, the relationship also failed because Hannah was… an “airhead”? (Yeah, we're all asking ourselves this question.) Hemingway, who says she's never met Hannah, apparently wrote her a “love note” ahead of the premiere, which we can only guess was burned, or, if Hannah takes this X user's advice, collected as evidence for a legal suit. (Jackie) O boy.

Before returning to the US, Lindsey Vonn’s sister found a silver (read: hot) lining to the Olympian’s extended hospital stay. On behalf of everyone, grazie for sharing.

Good news for people who don’t like to wait for movie adaptations of their favorite books: The Last Thing He Told Me season two is now streaming on Apple TV. The show and the sequel it’s based on were basically written in tandem, and pick up five years after Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) went into hiding. He appears at the art exhibition of his wife, Hannah Hall (Jennifer Garner), with a warning: She and his daughter, Bailey (Angourie Rice), aren’t safe. The two go back on the run to get answers, and try to bring the family back together — for good. Come for the mother-daughter dynamics and fight sequences, stay for the 13 Going on 30 reunion with Judy Greer. Sadly, there's no Razzles, but there are roundhouse kicks.

Caroline, Senior Commerce Editor, here. If you’ve followed us for a while, you’ll probably have seen the Skimm Shopping team recommend this nail concealer religiously over the past couple of years — it’s just that good. This genius product literally works as a concealer for your nails, lightly covering up textural inconsistencies, flaking, and white streaks, while giving them a glowy finish you probably never knew you needed. Londontown's Kur Illuminating Nail Concealer is also packed with strengthening ingredients, so you can use it as a treatment, too. This is my go-to for giving my nails some TLC after putting them through the gel manicure wringer. The best part? You don’t need to use a base and the top coat is optional. All the colors are pretty, but for spring, I’m eyeing this surprisingly wearable lavender shade.

Trending products and brands our shopping team has been loving recently.

There's nothing like the dopamine hit of trying a new beauty product. Some new launches our team has been loving? This hydrating lip tint, styling cream for slick-backs, and a lip liner that lasts through several cups of coffee (or cocktails).

We're not sure what took us so long to start shopping on The Outnet, but we're happy to be here. Right now you can get up to 80% off designer clothes, including these Frame jeans for less than $70.

Another sale that's too good to miss: Abercrombie's buy one, get one 50% off everything. We always recommend their now-famous bra-free cami.
