They say it takes a village to raise a child…and we have to be honest, it also takes a pretty solid collection of kid-related gear to make parenting as easy and efficient as possible. (We know it’s never easy — but these products can definitely help.) To make sure we chose right, we consulted Alisha Simpson-Watt LCSW, BCBA, LBA, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Alisha is the Executive Clinical Director and Founder of Collaborative ABA Services, LLC, an award-winning accredited behavioral health practice that specializes in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy. There are a million water bottles out there, but if you’re shopping for a toddler or preschooler, this one’s our pick. It’s leakproof, and has a silicone straw that stays safe from germs when the lid is closed. ($16.95, Amazon)

Throw this in the car so your little one can easily join you for meals on the fly, on vacation, or at grandma’s house (basically anywhere). You can attach it to most dining tables with just a few twists, and then collapse it and carry it home with you in the included carrying bag. ($79+, Pottery Barn)

There’s pretty much no situation where we don’t love Magna-Tiles, which is why we’ve been known to pack an entire case in the car, for use in a rental house at our destination. They’re well-made, and as satisfying for 1-year-old stackers as they are for 9-year-olds crafting Minecraft-style cube worlds. The mini “microMAGs” sets are fantastic for travel, too. ($119.99, Amazon)

So simple…yet so deeply fascinating for kids (and, we’ll be honest, adults). We love packing these stretchy fidget toys for trips, or setting them out at home to encourage sensory play. ($9.99, Amazon)

A tiny sound machine that can make a big difference when you need your baby to nap in the car, on a stroller walk, at grandma’s house…or even at home. You have 10 sound options, and can clip the speaker (which lasts up to 15 hours on a charge) to your bag or stroller easily. ($39.99, Amazon)

For a monitor with WiFi capability and lots of setup options, the Nanit is our top pick. Install the app on a phone or tablet so you can keep an eye on things from wherever you may be, and use Nanit’s overnight sleep summaries to stay on top of your baby’s midnight wake-ups and sleep trends. If you plan to travel with the baby, bundle the floor stand with the travel kit so you can set up the perfect sleep environment anywhere. ($319.20, Nanit)

Super-soft fabric that stretches (i.e. you don’t need to size up as often), plus colorful patterns, family matching options, and baby “zippies” with foldover feet and mittens? We love it all. In fact, we just wish more of these came in our size. ($34+, Little Sleepies)

Made from just bamboo — no glass or beads inside — and machine-washable, this 3.3-pound (1.5kg) weighted blanket is a great starter option for little ones. Other weights, colors, and fabrics (like organic cotton) are also available from the same brand. ($124, Woven Woven)

This simple, positive book explains and celebrates all the things that might make kids with autism feel different. It’s perfect for any child or adult seeking to better understand what autism means. ($14.95, Amazon)

A beautiful (and New York Times bestselling) story about a father’s relationship with his daughter, Zuri – and Zuri’s pride in her hair that “kinks, coils, and curls every which way.” Author Matthew A. Cherry’s animated short film of the same name won an Academy Award. (Unknown, Amazon)

Tubby Todd’s baby- and kid-friendly ointment is the one many parents turn to when other options haven’t worked on their kids’ eczema or dry skin.
