Jessica Prois
Editor, Daily Skimm

Jessi Prois is an editor at theSkimm, focusing on stories about politics, culture, AI, parenting, inequity, and finance — with a little sprinkling of the latest Bravo news. She has worked at NBC News, The Cut, and HuffPost and has bylines at outlets including Elle, Cosmo, NPR, and Dr. Becky’s Good Inside, among others. Most recently, she was editorial director at NBC Asian America and an editor for breaking news and lifestyle at the site.

Always on the hunt for zeitgeist pieces, Jessi tries to tap into the big questions: Is this the end of jobs? Why is everyone doing Hyrox? (The things that beguile us.) She loves good storytelling and bringing together multiple beats to make sense of this confusing moment we’re living in. An example: How does the mini fan trend explain climate change and the rise of fast fashion? Like most of us, she is chronically online and spends far too much time on TikTok (mostly crafting and comedy, no doomscrolling). She equally loves the craft of writing and the technical side of journalism, digging into data or using AI to make rote tasks easier and reporting stronger.

Jessi has won awards from the LA Press Club and the Asian American Journalism Association for politics, features, and immigration reporting. She has been featured on the Variety Women’s Impact list and received a S.I. Newhouse journalism fellowship and a Johns Hopkins University/Gates Foundation fellowship. She’s also served as an editor on a Pulitzer-Prize winning package. She has a Master's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.

The fun stuff: Jessi’s a big fan of photography, cooking (probably more so eating, let’s be real), running, music, baseball, fashion, skincare, comedy writing, winter sports, and traveling — having been everywhere from the Andes Mountains in Bolivia to the Indian Ocean in Mozambique. Jessi prefers savory things and dislikes desserts (olive oil on ice cream is acceptable). Catch her chasing her mini schnauzer and 6-year-old on a skateboard (the kid, not the dog).
