Kate Preziosi is a senior editor at theSkimm.

Kate works hand-in-hand with the talented editors and writers of The Daily Skimm to select the stories of the day, line-edit drafts to reflect the most essential details and analysis, and oversee breaking news updates and revisions (almost) up until the newsletter is ready to hit your inbox every weekday morning.

Kate is back with theSkimm after serving on the original founding team, where she co-wrote The Daily Skimm newsletter in its early years and played a central role in developing the balance of brevity, levity, and care that defines theSkimm voice today. As theSkimm continued to grow, Kate’s role expanded to include hiring, training, and managing the editorial team, planning the company’s news coverage, and strategic investment decisions.

Prior to theSkimm, Kate worked in broadcast news and as a live show producer at The Wall Street Journal, where she worked closely with the paper’s global reporting staff — from editors at the New York City headquarters to embeds in war zones — to translate their exhaustively reported print stories into video. For this work, she earned the Independent Achievement Award in 2014, a recognition offered to a handful of honorees from The Wall Street Journal’s global staff each year.

These experiences have given Kate an education in absorbing complicated stories with a critical eye — including the context, the source material, and the constituencies involved — and shaping them into an editorial product that is comprehensive, creative, and fair.

Kate recently earned her Master's in Fine Arts in nonfiction writing from The New School, and is developing a book project on the US government’s Au Pair Program. She is also a book critic, with a focus on new fiction from emerging authors, for a number of independent publications.
