Samantha Darby
Newsletter Editor, the Daily Skimm

In the first pages of her 8th grade journal, Samantha Darby detailed everything that happened on 9/11. Five days later, she wrote a new entry that consisted of just four sentences. “Bush declared war on Iraq. I’m so scared. I got a new haircut! It’s sooo cute.”

It’s that thrill of writing a deep, investigative piece like Where Have All The Great Sports Movies For Kids Gone? followed by a list of baby names, a recipe roundup, and then a skimm of the latest findings from the ACOG that brought Samantha to theSkimm. As newsletter editor for the Daily Skimm Samantha works the early shift. While you’re still snoozing (or doing Pilates at 5 am, she doesn’t know your schedule), she makes sure the news that’s set to hit your inbox hasn’t changed much overnight. She then spends her day searching through all the muck and madness (y’all, why so much?) to find exactly what Skimmr’s need to know. She edits, she writes… and then she tries to fit in an Austin Powers quote in somewhere.

Samantha has been writing and editing “a great many things” since 2010. (Yes, she did read Little Women when she was 12, thank you for noticing.) From the many, many Livejournal blogs (which she used mostly to meet other teenage girls who were really into TVLand) to years of freelance writing for everyone from HuffPost to HelloGiggles and Barnes & Noble, Samantha knows that the big news — and the big-to-you news — all matter.

For nearly 11 years, she made her way through the ranks at Bustle Digital Group, going from part-time writer to Senior Lifestyle & Entertainment Editor at the ASME Award-winning Romper and Scary Mommy. At Romper, she was also the weekend news editor, and nothing in her life will ever give her the adrenaline rush quite like preparing to sign off at 10 on a Saturday evening only for Beyoncé to announce the birth of her twins.

Samantha is based in Atlanta, where she was born and raised — with a British mother. (This means she gets to feel connected to both Shakespeare and Waffle House, a winning combination.) She is raising three incredible daughters who remind her every day to stay humble. Before her career in digital media, she was a professional actress and stand-up comedian. She wishes she could remember what that haircut looked like in 8th grade.
