Why I Tested...

How I Tested...
I used Dash’s electric burner set to cook dinner for two weeks. I took notes on cooking time, cleanup, storage, and overall ease of use.

Test Results...
Ease of use. If you’re already a fan of Dash products, you’ll know how simple and straightforward they are. This electric burner set is no different. The burner has a small dial at the base with three heat settings: low, medium, and high. I used Low for heating up tortillas, Medium for sautéeing vegetables, and High to sear and cook meats or boil water. The included fry pan, sauté pan, grill pan, and stockpot fit seamlessly onto the burner. As someone who hates reading lengthy instructions, I was happy to see there wasn’t much of a learning curve. I set it up and put it to use in less than five minutes.
Cooking time. Our kitchen stovetop is electric, which my partner hates because he says it doesn’t get our pans hot enough. Our first test was to see how quickly an electric burner could sear and cook a steak. Total time: 15 minutes. It took about five minutes to fully heat up on its highest heat setting. After that, the steak sizzled upon contact. It took about four to five minutes on each side to get our preferred medium-rare coloring, which is much faster than our regular stovetop. The stockpot took about 10 minutes to boil 4 quarts of water, which is a little long in my opinion. But it’s worth noting that the pot included in this set is on the larger side. Overall, this burner cut down cooking time by an average of five to 10 minutes.
Cleanup. Here is where I’m placing my gold ribbon. This burner is an absolute dream to clean. The pots and pans are made out of a ceramic nonstick material with a special coating that easily wipes clean. (As a bonus, I don’t need to use as much butter or oil with the nonstick coating, ultimately saving me a few extra bucks per month.) Each pot and pan also comes with heat-resistant silicone grips for easy handling, and they can also be removed for even easier cleanup.
Storage. The innovative product design is what sets Dash apart. I love that I didn’t have to buy additional storage for this burner set, because all the pieces can be perfectly nested into one another like Russian dolls. The burner, which fits in as the second piece in the stack, comes with a felt buffer with cutout handles for protection and easy removal when I’m ready to use it. The set also comes with interchangeable lids (ceramic and glass) that are also nestable.
Multiuse capability. All of the pots and pans included in this set are oven-safe up to 450 degrees and compatible with other electric and gas stovetops. So I feel like I doubled my cookware collection with a set that takes up about as much room in my cabinet as a dinner plate.

Sidenotes...
Affordability. While this 16-piece set is on the pricier side at almost $200, it’s one of the more expensive items in Dash’s entire suite. Their mini waffle maker, popcorn maker, grill press and ice cream maker (to name a few) are all under $50.
Lightweight materials. Given how durable the materials look, you’d think every piece of this set would be as heavy as a cast iron skillet. The opposite couldn’t be more true. Each set piece (burner included) weighs less than a regular nonstick pan. I store the nested set on the bottom shelf of a cabinet, and I’m happy to report zero pain after weeks of bending down to take it out for use.
