You worked hard enough this week. Let us plan your weekend…
Since everyone watches women’s sports now, we know exactly what you’ll be doing tomorrow at 8 pm ET: rooting for the Atlanta Dream or the Golden State Valkyries as they face off in the first Game 7 in WNBA Finals history. Will Dream forward Angel Reese help her team secure its first championship? Will Zendaya make another courtside appearance to cheer on the Valkyries as it tries to clinch the title in just its second season? We’ll tune in to find out.
French girls have already done so much for us. Now, they’ve figured out the coolest way to punch up a neutral outfit, and it involves socks in one very specific color. Oh là là, indeed.
Tricking friends, family, and yourself into thinking your jarred tomato sauce is homemade just got shockingly easy, thanks to a few pantry staples and this genius decision tree. Consider it saved to our camera rolls.
Grab a humongous hat and lace up your corset — The Gilded Age returns to HBO on Sunday (set a reminder for 9 pm ET). Following what many called the show’s “best season yet,” the soapy period drama should answer some big questions: Are George “Train Daddy” Russell (Morgan Spector) and his social-climbing wife, Bertha (Carrie Coon), headed for a divorce? Will Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) retake her place at the top of New York society after hosting President Grover Cleveland (Jim Gaffigan) for dinner? And will the most on-again, off-again couple of the 19th century — yes, Marian (Louisa Jacobson) and Larry (Harry Richardson) — finally marry? Let the backstabbing begin.

If a 30-minute episode is too much for your attention span (no judgment), Netflix just dropped Minimum Wage — and none of its installments crack 20. Based on the web series, the mockumentary is basically The Office if it took place in a pizza shop run by a ragtag group of Gen Z weirdos (complimentary). As the pizza boss (Randall Park) weighs whether to keep the floundering shop open, manager Grace (played by SNL newcomer Grace Reiter) is desperate to turn it around. The problem? Her staff spends more time blow-drying the display pies, putting pepperoni on their nipples, and starting drama (see: hooking up with a coworker’s mom) than actually making pizza. Order up.
Psst... See what else is happening this weekend so you never miss a moment.

Which Halloween candy deserves to be flung into the sun?

Happy (almost) weekend. In the Carver household, we take Halloween and the NYC Marathon seriously. Exhibit A: last year’s family costume. As for the marathon, I’ve been both a spectator and a participant, but this year, I’m going with the one that’s decidedly easier on the knees. Here are my non-negotiables for what’s sure to be a good couple of days:
Carving our pumpkins. It’s in the name, and I’ll never turn down an activity that comes with a snack. We’ll use the seeds to make two recipes — one sweet, one salty — so no one has to pick a side.
Trick-or-treating. I love watching my husband get recognized by his elementary school students, past and present. And I firmly believe in collecting the parent candy tax before we get home. Twix and Haribo gummy bears are my North Stars, so whichever kid hands them over first is the instant favorite.
Cheering along Fourth Avenue in Brooklyn, especially for my best pals Michelle and Kevin. But first, a poster, which I’ll make by shamelessly borrowing from the GOATs of marathon signage. May every runner cross the finish line with the exact zeal of Shalane Flanagan.
Baking these apple cinnamon oatmeal cookies… again. I made them earlier this month, when our weekend team featured the recipe (they had me at “maple icing”). This time, I’m adding apple crisp cookies, because someone has to use up our orchard haul.
Watching The Nightmare Before Christmas, our annual bridge from Halloween to the holiday classics. Need something for your family movie night? This list of 11 underrated spooky films should do the trick.
