I Designed a Custom Ring With Noémie and Now It's My Favorite Piece of Jewelry

The assignment…

I’ve heard lots about concierge jewelry services, but never tried one. Which is why I was beyond curious to see what it would be like to create a custom piece with Noémie.

The jewelry…

After working with a design manager, I decided on an open wrap ring made with lab-grown diamonds and 18-karat white gold, resulting in a total of $750 (ring shown below).

Straight A’s in…

• Quality and appearance. Simply put, the ring is beautiful. The diamonds sparkle and are significant-looking (bright, shiny, clear), so I definitely consider them eye-catching when I’m speaking with my hands. After sizing my finger, I landed on a 5.5 (I wear it on either my middle finger or my pointer), which Noémie matched perfectly. It feels like a comfortable, secure fit, so I’m not worried about wearing the ring when I travel and I can wash my hands with no fear. PS: I’ve worn it during my normal day-to-day life and haven’t noticed any premature scratching. Would I wear it to lift weights? No, but that seems only logical. 

• Design process. The entire process, start to finish, was pretty seamless. The design manager contacted me to discuss all details over email. They asked me about budget, whether I was looking for natural or lab-grown diamonds, and if there was a specific date I wanted the ring by. They were also quick to respond, which made turnaround time quite short. Once you provide initial details, the design team sketches your possible piece and sends detailed mocks. At that point, you can either approve the mocks as is, or provide feedback to ensure that you’re totally in love with your final design. Once everything is set, you place your order and creation begins. 

• Customer service. Noémie representatives are polite and very eager to help. They made sure I felt comfortable with pricing before the design process even began. They were also available for questions and communicated clearly my lead time and when I should be expecting the ring to be completed. After it arrived, I received a follow-up email, making sure it met my expectations.   

• Delivery. I received an email that the ring was ready and boom — the next day it arrived at my apartment. It was wrapped beautifully in a blue box, which FYI, was scented. I’m being serious — the unboxing experience was lovely and felt luxe. I could imagine this being a huge hit as a gift (hint, hint).

Room for growth…

• Honestly, not much. I will admit, I’ve owned this ring for about one month. I’ve worn it extensively since I received it — it’s hard not to — but I realize it’ll take a much longer amount of time to really speak to the longevity of the ring and how it shows wear over time.

Works best for…

• The fine details. Custom pieces designed by Noémie have a lifetime guarantee, and are hand-inspected by the IGI or GIA. For orders over $2500, a certification card is provided. Orders ship complementary overnight (this includes custom orders), and you can pay for pieces via monthly installments if necessary.

• Materials. Noémie highly prioritizes materials, and uses 18-karat gold and diamonds that reach a specific clarity and color standard. They guarantee that no diamonds are used that appear imperfect to the naked eye.

How we did our homework…

• I worked directly with Noémie's design team to create a custom ring. Once the ring arrived, I wore it everyday, paying special attention to its appearance out of the box, how it felt on my hand throughout the day, and if I noticed any immediate signs of scratching. Throughout the process, I kept detailed notes on how smoothly things went, from communication to design to delivery.
