August 26, 2022 (New York, NY) – theSkimm, a mission-driven digital media company, today announced the return of its free, virtual course series SkimmU Money, aiming to close the gender investing gap as women continue to face financial uncertainty. On average, women retire with $70,000 less than men, and following last year’s most popular course, Investing 101, this year’s full semester will dive deeper to help women gain the confidence to start investing and build long-term wealth. Through dynamic and engaging live sessions led by financial experts, audience and panel Q&As, and interactive coursework, SkimmU Money will explore the psychology of investing, how to start and build an investment portfolio, the best way to save for life’s big moments, and whether crypto assets are right for your financial goals.

SkimmU Money, presented by Fidelity, will be moderated by Alex Carr, Senior Producer and Host of "Skimm This" at theSkimm, and will consist of the following 45-minute courses:

  • Minding Your Mindset on September 19, 2022 at 7:30pm ET, led by Ashley Feinstein Gerstley, author, money coach, and founder of The Fiscal Femme, and joined by Kelly Lannan, senior vice president of emerging customers at Fidelity Investments, will explain the psychology of investing and walk through how to create a personal investment strategy based on your money mindset, values, and risk tolerance.

  • Building Your Portfolio on September 20, 2022 at 7:30pm ET, led by Farnoosh Torabi, financial expert and editor at large at CNET Money, and joined by Leanna Devinney, vice president, branch leader at Fidelity Investments, will break down asset classes and allocation, do’s and don’ts of long-term investing, and how to double down on your retirement plan.

  • Investing for Later(ish) on September 21, 2022 at 7:30pm ET, led by Bola Sokunbi, author and founder & CEO of Clever Girl Finance, and joined by Mabel Nuñez, Founder and Chief Education Officer of Girl$ on The Money, will teach you how to invest with your short-term goals in mind.

  • Feeling Crypto FOMO? on September 22, 2022 at 7:30pm ET, led by Maggie Love, founder of SheFi, and joined by Charlene Fadirepo, Bitcoin Educator, Podcaster, Founder of Guidefi, will explain what you need to know before you start investing in crypto, and how to decide if dipping your toe or diving head first is a strategy that’s right for you and your portfolio.

Launched in March 2021, SkimmU is theSkimm’s event series with a spin on higher education.
