For a third election cycle, theSkimm commits to activating its audience on a local and state level

September 9, 2022 (New York, NY) – theSkimm, a mission-driven digital media company, announced the launch of its Skimm Your Ballot initiative ahead of midterms, kicking off with an interactive civic engagement hub at theSkimm.com that will enable its audience to easily get informed, get registered, and vote. Dedicated to helping women understand the value of their vote and the impact it has on their local communities, the nonpartisan microsite and campaign offer a one-stop shop to prepare generations of women for the upcoming elections.

With more at stake in local and state elections, theSkimm’s goal is to increase voter turnout by providing its community with the information and tools they need so they can understand the topics that affect them most and vote with confidence. Over the last three election cycles, the brand has consistently mobilized its politically diverse audience to take action when it comes to civic engagement. From registering to voting to showing up at the polls and getting involved, theSkimm has driven more than 1 million voting-related actions to date.

“80 percent of millennial women we surveyed this year said they’re dissatisfied with the way things are going in the US. This year, there’s too much at stake to not be heard,” said theSkimm’s SVP of Brand Marketing and Communications, Jodi Patkin. “Civic engagement has always been really important to the company. Our goal is to continue to inform our audience on the issues at stake and empower them to use their ballots – and voices – not just on a national level, but on the state and local levels where they can feel the impact in their daily lives.”

With a focus on the importance of local elections, the ‘Skimm Your Ballot’ initiative and online hub will allow voters to get registered, provide them with a personalized ballot tool to help them learn about the candidates, features info and guides so they can read up on the issues at stake and get prepped for the polls, and share a roundup of volunteer opportunities so they can get involved in election efforts. theSkimm has teamed up with nonpartisan brand partners including When We All Vote, Power the Polls, and ActiVote in order to provide Skimm’rs opportunities to get involved in local election efforts within their communities, from pledging to vote to becoming a poll worker to volunteering.

Skimm’rs can engage and stay up-to-date with the latest election news and voting deadlines through theSkimm’s flagship product, the Daily Skimm, as well as through guides on issues impacting millennial women and a dedicated email series tied to key election moments in the weeks leading up to November. The “Skimm This” podcast will also feature midterms-specific segments focused on the stakes, the issues, and the female millennial vote.
