August 19, 2021 (New York, NY) – Today, theSkimm revealed its insights on how millennial women are thinking about remote work and the "Great Her-Turn" to office. At a time when companies are either delaying or reconsidering their return to office policies, theSkimm surveyed its audience to get a pulse check on millennial women's attitudes about work-life balance, pressures to go back to the office, the value of in-person work, and more.

These findings will be used in part to help guide theSkimm’s virtual Back to “Normal” Power Panel, on Thursday, Aug 26, at 1:00 p.m. ET. Thought leaders like Fatima Goss Graves, CEO of the National Women’s Law Center, Tina Tchen, CEO of Time’s Up, Ai-jen Poo, Co-founder and Executive Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance, and Tami Forman, Executive Director of Path Forward, will discuss the challenges faced by women during the COVID-19 pandemic and how it has affected the future of work. theSkimm's co-founders and co-CEOs Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg will also take part and moderate the panel discussion.

"Women have disproportionately lost economic opportunities due to the pandemic, and when people talk about going back to ‘normal,’ they are talking about going back to a society that’s not set up to support women in the workplace," Zakin and Weisberg said. "Drawing on insights from our audience on how they’re thinking about the return to work, our Back to “Normal” Power Panel will feature leading thinkers on the inequities women are facing in this 'Great Return' and what we can do to correct them."

theSkimm’s Back to “Normal” survey shows millennial women's nuanced views on returning to office...

Here's the data:

  • 65% of millennial women say they have better work-life balance when working remotely

  • However, two-thirds of millennial women also say they believe they are missing opportunities by not being in the office, where they can discuss their career goals and development.

  • 76% of millennial women miss seeing friends and colleagues.

  • More than half think working on-site helps provide routine and a set place to work.

  • 40% of millennial women say they feel more pressure to go back to the office if they know their male colleagues are.
